This stunning work of kutani art dates back to the 1920s and is of the rare type of ifgural kutani. Depicted is a near life-size and actually very lifelike cat.

The kitten is shown in a curled up posture, resting on the ground. Her sweet face shows us she si sleeping peacefully. Her facial features and the ribbon around her neck are hand painted with fine artistic skills. Kutani porcelain was first made in 1655, in the kutani nine valleys village in the first year of the myoreki epoch and is famed for its colorful and traditional style. Many styles of kutani porcelain decoration were centered in the rice-growing kaga province adn may originally have developed to sustain trade in rice for undecorated ceramics from areas such as arita. Diverse styles of decorations are associated with kutani, the most popular are the elaborate red designs. Please click here to view all asian antiques i am currently selling on ebay with no reserve!
